Oxenfree is an experience that thrives on the ignorance of the person playing it. Even Oxenfree's launch trailer leaves out any sort of foreboding moments or reveals until the very end so that gamers have very little clue as to what is happening. There's information on who does the soundtrack and who the vocal talents are, but explanations for anything plot-centric is contained to a few words. This isn't the case with Oxenfree. The game's website purposefully has scant explanations of what Oxenfree actually is. Modern titles feel almost entirely figured out upon release, unless the marketing purposefully obfuscates the true story or intentions of a game. Heavily researching the game is akin to heavily researching any of the best mystery books sure, more is known about the characters and their personal stories, but now part of the mystery's twists and turns have been revealed, ruining future intrigue that was designed to be revealed at a later date. Having a game's story spoiled is a common experience in the current world of gaming, where one is constantly bombarded with new information on the latest happenings in the space. The tumultuous events in Oxenfree are best played through without any prior knowledge. Why You Should Know Nothing About Oxenfree Before Playing it Stop researching what the game's about it'll only ruin the fun. It's on every major platform at this point, including mobile. If a supernatural thriller sounds enticing, then pick up Oxenfree and go experience it right now. World War II plays a factor in the plot, and a mystery or two may or may not be solved. The game is a thriller and has some supernatural elements. Oxenfree is about a group of teens that goes to a party on an island. It absolutely is, but the research should stop right there - because Oxenfree is best experience with zero outside knowledge of what it is. Announced at Nintendo's Indie World showcase, many intrigued Nintendo fans may find themselves wanting to research and figure out if the predecessor is worth playing. The sleeper hit of 2016 Oxenfree is getting a sequel on the Nintendo Switch titled Oxenfree 2: Lost Signals.
